Admission requirements
Which requirements do I have to fullfil for admission to the masters degree program?
The degree “Bachelor of Science Psychology” or a degree of a comparable Bachelor of Science program of another higher education institution is a requirement for national as well as international students. Legal requirements can be found under cross-departmental bylaws of selection (as of 04/12/2017).

Differing admission requirements
I studied psychology as minor or I studied economic psychology or social education or …Does my application has prospect of success?
With a degree “Bachelor of Science Psychology” you have the best opportunities for a successful application. In cases of doubt, the selection committee decides.
Foreign Bachelor ´s degree
I obtained my Bachelor´s degree abroad. What do I have to take into account regarding the application?
The degree “Bachelor of Science Psychology” is a requirement for a successful application. If that degree has been obtained abroad, it is assessed for equivalence by reference to the submitted documents by the academic office psychology. Foreign degrees have to be submitted to the academic office principally in order to translate grades.
Application documents
Which documents do I have to submit for the application for the master´s degree program?
Since 2013/2014 winter semester you no longer have to submit any application documents. Generally, the application for the master´s degree program takes place solely online. Please find further information regarding the application master psychology.
Exceptions:
- You obtained your Bachelor of Science in psychology abroad,
- You obtained your higher education entrance eligibility abroad,
- Your degree is not called “Bachelor of Science Psychology” or “B. Sc. Psychology” but “B. Sc. Applied Psychology” or “B. Sc. Economic Psychology” for example.

Application documents in case of differing university degree
Which application documents do I have to submit if my bachelor´s degree is not a “Bachelor of Science Psychology” of a German higher education institution, but I assume to fullfil the conditions of admission for the master´s degree program nevertheless?
You submit the following application documents within the application deadline (06/01/–07/15/) to the academic office:
- a filled in and signed print of the online application form (therefore you apply online),
- a simple copy of your degree certificate of your first higher education degree or/and the transcript of records containing the (preliminary) average grade and the titles of all attended courses and accomplished ECTS credits that allow to check for comparability.
- a simple copy of your higher education entrance eligibility (“Abitur” certificate or a degree certificate of a previous completed, non-psychological university program)
- a handbook of modules and – if your handbook of modules does not clearly indicate that your degree is a B. Sc. Psychology – a diploma supplement,
- where required proof of English language proficiency (simple copy)
- where required proof of German language proficiency (simple copy).
Foreign proofs have to be submitted in German. The translation has to be undertaken by an officially sworn interpreter.

Missing bachelor ´s degree certificate
What can I do if my bachelor´s degree certificate is not available at the time of application?
You apply with your transcript of records. This must contain the preliminary average grade resulting from your so far rendered academic achievements. If your application is successful you obtain a preliminary admission and you have to hand in your bachelor´s degree certificate until the end of the first semester (03/31/). If you do not so, you are no longer entitled to the university place.
Proof of German language proficiency
German is not my mother tongue. Which evidence do I have to provide of my German language proficiency?
If you are not a German citizen we need a language proof. For your admission, it is therefore required to hand in a language certificate about sufficient German language proficiency not later than the beginning of the semester (10/01/ for the winter semester, 04/01/ for the summer semester). You should begin the scheduling and preparation of your German examination already before applying for the university program.

Proof of English language proficiency
How do I have to prove my English proficiency?
In case of admission you have to prove your English skills equal to a B 2 level as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Proficiency has to be proved by the higher education entrance eligibility (at least 6 years school education) or by an international proof of language skills at the level B 2. Exemplary certificates are Cambridge First Certificate of English A or B, IELTS 5.5 or higher, TOEFL: paper-based at least 550 points, internet-based at least 70 points or UNIcert II. The proof of language is also required if English is the applicant´s mother tongue.
Focus of the master program
Can I acquire a specialized master´s degree? Or are there different master programs for psychology?
No. There are indeed several subjects that can be chosen within the scope of the curriculum, but you will acquire a universal master degree in psychology. There is only one master program.
Qualification for the post-graduate education as a psychological psycho-therapist
If you strive for an approbation as a psychological psycho-therapist, you should inform yourself timely at the Landesprüfungsamt of the respective Federal State (Bundesland) where you want to conduct your post-graduate education. Get informed to which extent for example the module “Clinical psychology” must have been attended at the bachelor or/and master program.

Costs for studies
What does your studies costs?
You solely have to pay a semester fee. Additionally, cost for teaching materials such as books (as required) can be incurred.
Questions concerning rejection letters during the master ´s application procedure
If you want to get to know the reason for rejection of your master ´s application in psychology, please contact the office that issued the rejection letter via contact form. If there is some need for clarification, your request will be forwarded to the Institute of Psychology. The answer of the institute will be conveyed to you personally and to the office that issued the rejection letter. Therefore, the responsibilities are respected.
