This opinion article, entitled „The elusiveness of context effects in decision making“ and published in Trends in Cognitive Sciences, is a collaboration with Mikhail Spektor from Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) and Sudeep Bhatia from UPenn (Philadelphia, USA). We synthesized recent findings and resolved apparent contradictions about context effects in decision making. We did so by considering these effects in terms of three core categories: spatial arrangement, attribute concreteness, and deliberation time. We suggest that these categories could be understood using theories of choice representation, which specify how context shapes the information over which deliberation processes operate. Link
