Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
Welcome to the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy at the University of Hamburg!
Since April 2025, the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy has been headed by Prof. Dr. Katharina Förster. Our focus is on researching affective disorders (depression, bipolar disorders) within the family context—particularly on risk and protective factors that influence the mental health of parents and children. The department combines research, teaching, and clinical practice:
- In our research, we investigate the development and maintenance of affective disorders in families. You can find information about our current research projects here.
- At the affiliated university outpatient clinic for families, we offer specialized diagnostics and psychotherapy for families affected by affective disorders. We currently offer psychotherapy for children and adolescents up to age 21 as part of training therapies. You can find more information on our university outpatient clinic page.
- In our teaching, we provide students with scientifically grounded knowledge in the fields of clinical child and adolescent psychology as well as child and adolescent psychotherapy. The department also offers the opportunity to write bachelor’s and master’s theses as part of research projects. Further information on teaching and theses can be found here.
We appreciate your interest in our work!
