We are pleased to announce the publication of our latest article by Kai Härpfer and Anja Riesel, which introduces an integrative model of altered error-related brain activity and psychopathology. In this publication, the authors review the current literature on the role of an altered error-related negativity (ERN) as a transdiagnostic risk factor across internalizing, externalizing, and thought disorders. They highlight early shaping factors that influence the development of hypo- or hyperactive neural error monitoring systems, as well as potential catalysts that translate neural risk into clinical symptoms. The resulting integrative model offers a comprehensive framework for future clinical research and the development of personalized interventions, grounded in a neurobiological understanding of psychopathology.
