B.Sc. Program Profile (from WiSe 2020/21)
The Bachelor's degree program in Psychology is a single-subject Bachelor's degree (180 LP) and has a standard duration of three years. Students of this subject receive basic training in psychology and learn to work independently in a scientific manner and to apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired in practical psychological work on their own responsibility.
Since the 2020/21 winter semester, a polyvalent bachelor's degree program in psychology has been offered, which is adapted to the reformed Psychotherapist Act (PsychThG) and the reformed licensing regulations (PsychThApprO).
In this bachelor's program, you have the option of taking a clinical course profile that meets the legal requirements for future psychotherapist training with regard to the first degree. Accreditation and professional recognition by the social welfare authority have been granted. The bachelor's program (both course profiles) has been awarded the DGPs quality seal.
The non-clinical program profile provides content for general psychological professional fields or application contexts, e.g., in the areas of Developmental Psychology and Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Choosing this profile enables students to enroll in consecutive research-oriented master's programs. The final certificate contains the corresponding specification.
Prerequisites for admission are sufficient English language skills (at least B2 level) and good mathematical skills in order to meet the requirements in statistics. In order to consolidate or improve your mathematical skills, we recommend that you take the “Online Mathematics Bridge Course OMB+” and/or the mathematics preparatory course offered by the “Research Methods and Statistics” department (before the start of the lecture period).
To check whether you feel ready for a bachelor's degree in psychology, you should work through the Psychology Study Compass.
Aptitude test (BaPsy-DGP)
Starting with the application process for the 2023/24 winter semester, a study aptitude test (BaPsy-DGP) will be taken into account in the selection process for the B.Sc. Psychology program, for which registration is required several months before the start of the application phase.
The grade of the university entrance qualification will account for 51 percent and the BaPsy-DGP test result for 49 percent in the selection process. Please note that the NC values of previous years are only of limited relevance due to the introduction of the study aptitude test (BaPsy-DGP) as an additional selection criterion.
Registration for the test takes place between December 15, 2024, and February 15, 2025, at: www.studieneignungstest-psychologie.de. The test fee must be paid by February 15, 2025, at the latest.
The test will take place on May 24 and 25, 2025, at one of the designated test locations.
Current information on test locations and dates, as well as further information on test content, preparation, and test fees, can be found on the website: www.studieneignungstest-psychologie.de.
Further information on the study aptitude test can also be found on the relevant website of the Institute of Psychology at the University of Hamburg.
