Information for Blind and visually impaired
The work group Biological Psychology and Neuropsychology of the University of Hamburg (head of faculty: Prof. Dr. Brigitte Röder) focuses on how blind individuals compensate the loss of sight by means of hearing and tactile perception. To which extent can the brain adapt to new challenges (e.g. blindness)? Does this ability depend on age? We investigate the ability to discriminate tones or shapes to target these questions.
The success of our research relies mainly on the willingness of blind individuals to participate in our studies. Our studies never harm the health of our participants or put them at risk in any way. The invested time is compensated with a small remuneration, and travelling costs to Hamburg can be reimbursed if agreed upon. Appointments and duration of the study can be arranged individually and we assist our participants in the organization of the arrival.
We are currently looking for completely blind adults, who have been blind since birth or who have become blind later in life.
We would be grateful, if you would support us in the search for such individuals or would like to take part yourself. By doing so, you would contribute to the rehabilitation of blind individuals in different stages of life.
