Undergraduate Studies / B.Sc.
Lecture and Exercise Course: Introduction to Developmental Psychology (2nd semester)
This introductory course gives an initial overview of developmental processes in diverse areas of human behavior and cognition along with the influences that shape those processes. The specific research methods used in developmental psychology will be introduced as well.
The course focuses on the early cognitive and socio-cognitive development (i.a. prenatal development, sensorimotor development, perception, memory, social understanding, language acquisition).
Moreover we explore changes in selected developmental areas during late childhood and adolescence as well as the cognitive and personality development in adulthood. Additionally, the course introduces the most significant theories of cognitive and psycho-social development.
Advanced Seminars in Developmental Psychology (3rd semester)
This advanced course focuses on selected areas of Developmental Psychology. Thereby, current research questions and theoretical approaches of the early socio-cognitive development are presented and are discussed critically.
Bachelor Thesis (6th semester)
We offer topics for a B.Sc. thesis related to our research on the socio-cognitive development of infants and toddlers and its influencing factors (e.g. different parenting styles, cultural parameters etc.).
In our projects we explore the social and cognitive development in interactive action paradigms, using measures of eye movement as well as EEG recordings. Employing a comparative approach, we carry out observational and experimental studies with infants and toddlers of different socio-cultural backgrounds. We primarily look at processes within the first two years of life. Some aspects of our research questions, we address looking at preschoolers and elementary students.
Undergraduate / B.Sc.students who are interested in one of our research projects are encouraged to contact us regarding possible B.Sc. thesis projects.
When writing your thesis at our lab, we strongly recommend that you simultaneously participate in the corresponding developmental psychology thesis colloquium.
Thus, please contact us regarding the choice of your thesis’ topic before signing up for the thesis colloquium in developmental psychology.
This procedure is necessary in order to assure that your individual work and the thesis colloquium are optimally coordinated.
