In this study, we examined the link between transdiagnostic anxiety dimensions (anxious apprehension and anxious arousal) and responses to unpredictable threat. The experimental data indicate that individuals with increased anxious apprehension (i.e., who show increased worry) also display increased physiological responses (i.e., increased startle reflex) in anticipation of unpredictable threat. These findings allow insights into the physiological correlates of the symptom dimension anxious apprehension, which is increased in individuals with different anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder).
