In this study, we investigated the influence of intolerance of uncertainty on neural correlates of performance monitoring. The results did not support cross-sectional associations. Potential associations of uncertainty and performance monitoring were also tested in a randomized-controlled longitudinal design. Here, momentary fluctuations in state uncertainty were induced via an uncertainty symptom induction. The results can deepen our understanding of the personality trait intolerance of uncertainty, which has been shown to be increased in patients with anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
