New Publication: How Goals Shape Decision-Making and Attention
25 September 2026, by Uğur Turhan
How do decision goals - choosing the one you like most/least-influence what we pay attention to and how we make choices? A new paper by Romy Frömer, Chih-Chung Ting, Amitai Shenhav, and Sebastian Gluth, published in Topics in Cognitive Science, explores the dynamic interplay between cognitive control, visual attention, and value-based decision-making.
By combining eye-tracking dynamics with computational modeling, the authors demonstrate that goal-directed visual attention dynamically reconfigures how we gather information. Rather than focusing on the most valuable items, visual search and evidence accumulation adapt to goal-congruent items to support the new decision goal.
