Time and Duration
When should the internship be completed?
The internship (or individual parts) can be completed from the beginning of the semester break after the end of the 2nd semester. It is recommended to complete the internship during the semester break at the end of the 4th semester.
How long must the internship be?
The work-based psychological internship can be between 390 hours (13 CPs) and 480 hours. In the case of a total of 480 hours, the work-based placement can also be credited with 3 CPs in the elective area. This is done by applying to the examination board.
The work placement may be split if it is still possible to achieve the qualification objectives.
Can I extend my internship?
Yes, but a maximum of 90 additional hours (3 CP) can be recognised in the elective area.
Can I apply for a semester of leave for the internship?
Yes, an internship is a valid reason for an academic leave, information on this can be found on the relevant pages of the Campus Centers.
When do I have to complete the internship?
The internship credit points are required for the completion of the degree programme.
Can internships completed before the start of the degree programme be recognised? If so, which ones and how should students proceed?
Internships completed prior to the start of the degree programme may be recognised upon application if they correspond to the content and qualification objectives (s. Fachspezifische Bestimmungen)
If you wish to have a previously completed internship recognised, please contact the internship supervisor and provide a certificate detailing the type and scope of the activities, including the total number of hours.
What special rules apply if the internship runs into the lecture period?
If your internship extends into the lecture period, please contact your internship supervisor.
Internship outside Hamburg
Is it possible to do an internship abroad?
Yes, please contact the internship supervisor.
Is it possible to complete the internship outside of Hamburg?
Yes.

What are the prerequisites I need to meet to start an internship?
The prerequisite for an internship is the successful completion of the module "Studien- und berufsfeldbezogene Einführung".
The internship is possible from the beginning of the lecture-free period after the end of the 2nd semester. It is recommended that the internship be completed during the lecture-free period at the end of the fourth semester.
Are there fixed partner institutions for the internship or can I choose where I would like to do the internship?
Students have the option of applying independently to other institutions.
