Meetings and New Work

Employees in the knowledge society spend an average of six hours a week in meetings, while managers spend up to 80% of their working time in meetings. What happens before, during and after each meeting has an impact on individual work attitudes, on emotional well-being and on team collaboration and performance. Meetings also play a special role in the context of New Work. They are the interaction center in organizations and an important lever for employee engagement and organizational transformation.
Meeting effectiveness is a key leadership challenge . With a focus on actual observable behavior and software-based pattern recognition, we study communication processes in meetings. Our research uses both field observations and laboratory experimental approaches to understand the behavioral patterns that drive effective meetings in face-to-face, virtual, or hybrid formats.
